My Journey

Shanwill Wang is a Chinese-American artist born and raised in Florida, currently attending Pratt Institute to pursue a bachelor's degree in Fashion Design. As a child growing up in a world with an increasingly prejudiced and materialistic culture, shanwill had started to take solace in finding the history and quality behind things. This mindset has transferred into both his artwork and designs, influencing his approach towards his use of material or topics.

 

Shanwills artwork focuses on his experiences as a queer individual in an increasingly unaccepting world, utilizing a mask of theatricality to choreograph his coping towards the uncertainty that clouds the future. Through his designs in fashion, Shanwill turns his focus towards creating sustainable pieces using natural or found materials, often referencing history in his pieces as he recycles the old into the new.
